22-Jun-2007 - Happy
Birthday Rafe
Hi Folks. As you
can see Sadleir.org is back online...mostly.
I have been able to get just about everything back
up save for the family tree database. I hope to
have that back up in the near future. If anyone
finds error in the site please let me know via the
contact form.
Hopefully many of
you will be attending the Sadleir Quincentenary
this weekend (23rd & 24th of June) at Sutton
House in London. Unfortunately I will not be
there. I can't express how disappointed I am that
I won't be able to attend. This website is the
culmination of many years of work for the love of
the history of this family and of England. I have
had many personal setbacks this year and was not
able to make the commitment. My warmest regards to
everyone who will be there. I am hoping to travel
to London later this year.
10-Oct-2006 - Mail
Problems
Just an FYI, email coming
in to Sadleir.org has been taking up to a week to
get to me and I'm afraid that some of the test
messages I've been sending haven't reached the
mailbox at all. If you'd like to contact us please
send an email message to tom AT shadowshow
DOT com, with the subject
heading of "Sadleir". I'm working with
tech support to fix this problem. Thanks.
8-Aug-2006 - The Sadleir Quincentenary and a new
article on the Lordship
The Sutton
House Society has recently posted the dates
for the Sadleir Quincentenary celebration. It will
be held on the 23rd and 24th of June 2007 at Sutton
House. There are some wonderful events planned for
the two-day celebration. See you there!
Rob Street, our
Standon Lordship expert, has sent a wonderful
article entitled "A Man and His
House". Read the article on The
Lordship page. Many thanks Rob.
9-May-2006 - Puzzle Complete and a Cry For
Help
I have been able to
complete the inscription of the plaque at the foot
of Sir Ralph's tomb through the text in one of my
recently acquired books. Read it on the "Tomb"
page.
Also, Alex from
Hertfordshire writes to ask if Sadleir Road in St.
Albans is named for Sir Ralph. I have been unable
to find any evidence supporting or denying this,
so I put the question to any of our readers. If
anyone has any information please email us through
our contact page.
25-April-2006 - More Books...
Happy I was able to
acquire 4 new books. The first is a compiled
volume of The Gentleman's Magazine from
1835. The March issue contains an article on the
Sadler family.
The three other
books are copies of the East Herts Archaeological
Society Transactions.
They are from 1902, 1906 and 1937
respectively. The 1906 copy contains an article
about the Sadleir family written by the notable
Thomas Ulick Sadleir. the remaining two contain
articles on the village of Standon. The details of
these books are listed on the Books
page of the Literature section under Resources.
Confused? So am I.
I've started a
revamp of the site, but due to illness I have been
unable to continue the work. I hope to have it up
by summer. Cheers to all!
4-January-2006
Happy New Year to
all.
27-October-2005
Thanks to everyone who has been sending

site useful and would like it to remain active. I
will try to revamp it in the coming months and add

18-January-2005
Well folks, I'm
considering shutting down this site. Many things
haven't allowed me much time to devote to this
site. There isn't a great amount of cost in
keeping this site active, but I don't wish it to
become stagnant.
If you think that
this site should remain open or you've found it to
be helpful please let me know through this
form.

A big thanks to Peter Scott in the UK for some new Sadleir

Three books aren't

inscribed with many names. Scans of these will be
available soon.
Thanks Pete!

You can now access the site through the new URL.
Visit the NEW Sadleir Web

I will soon be entering
all of the genealogical data that I've received from
so many of you into my Family Tree Maker Program. This
is the first step in piecing together the global
Sadleir family tree. It will make searching for a family
member much easier and will organize the data for
upload to the website when I get to the next level.
22-August-2003
Hi History Fans! Yesterday I received an upgrade
to Family Tree Maker v.11.
If anyone is looking for software to help them track
their family tree, this is the program for them.
This is the final
weekend of our local Renaissance Faire. I have only
been able to participate as Sir Ralph for three days
this year. However, tomorrow my niece will be
accompanying me as Anne Sadleir (Sir Ralph's oldest
daughter).
Keep those emails
coming in with your branches of the family tree. Also
let me know if I may make them available to others.
I'm going to be entering them to the family tree
program and hopefully making them viewable online.
13-August-2003
I've added an "About Us" section to tell
you a bit about myself. Most people are surprised to
learn I'm an American and not related to Sir Ralph
Sadleir in any way. Take a look to learn more.
12-August-2003
Things have been rather busy as of late which has
made regular updates, well rather irregular. I have
been learning some computer skills which may prove
effective in building a database. However, I won't be
able to implement anything until autumn.
Thanks to everyone who
has been letting me know that they find this site to
be a useful tool. If anyone would like to contribute
anything from family records to written articles
please don't hesitate to email me
here.
23-June-2003-
Library Complete
A big thank you to Richard
Sadleir of Lower Hutt, New Zealand (a
fourteenth generation descendant of John, Sir Ralph's
brother) for sending a photo copy of the Thomas Ulick
Sadleir article "A Brief Memoir of the Right Hon. Sir Ralph
Sadleir".
This now completes the
library of books written specifically about Sadleir
(that I know of). The 10 books
(by publish year) are:
| 1 |
1720 |
Letters and Negotiations of Sir Ralph Sadler |
| 2 |
1809 |
The State papers and Letters of Sir Ralph Sadler |
| 3 |
1810 |
Sir Ralph Sadler's State Papers. (An article extracted from the Quarterly Review.) |
| 4 |
1877 |
A Memoir of the life and times of the Right Honourable Sir Ralph. |
| 5 |
1907 |
A Brief Memoir of the Right Hon. Sir Ralph Sadleir. |

The Letters Patent of King Edward VI. granting Henbury Manor and
Church...to Sir Ralph Sadleir. |

Politics & Profit. A Study of Sir Ralph Sadler |
| 10 |

Our Man In Scotland |
There are several books
that mention Sadleir or contain historical information
relating to the Sadleir family. I will be adding these
as I find them.
27-May-2003 -
It's Here!!!
Today
I received a copy of Letters
and Negotiations of Sir Ralph Sadler
(1720).
This has been my
Holy Grail of Sadleir books. It's not that this book
contains particularly rare data relating to the
Sadleir family, but rather the fact that this is
the first book devoted entirely to Sadleir that
makes it important to me. Also, when I started this
project I never thought I would be able to
obtain half of the books that I now own much
less this rarity. It's exciting and amazing to
hold a book that's nearly 300 years old.
My Sadleir
library is almost complete save for a copy of A Brief Memoir of the Right Hon. Sir Ralph
Sadleir written by Thomas Ulick Sadleir and
published by Stephen Austin & Sons, Hertford 1907.
Any help in obtaining a copy of this book would
be greatly appreciated. I can be contacted
here.
20-May-2003 - Help
I'm looking for a copy of the book entitled: A Brief Memoir of the Right Hon. Sir Ralph
Sadleir written by Thomas Ulick Sadleir and
published by Stephen Austin & Sons, Hertford 1907.
Any help in locating this book would be great
appreciated.
21-Apr-2003 - New
Book
Today I received a new book: "A
History of the Parish of Standon" by
Christopher Perowne (1967). I
have only had time to briefly leaf through it. It
contains several good black and white photographs of
places in and about Standon including a good photo of
the Lordship.
31-Mar-2003 - Introducing:
The Sadleir Discussion Web!
I have created a message board for those of
you who are interested in sharing information about
the Sadleir family. You can get there by clicking
the link on the navigation bar that reads: "Message
Board"
27-Mar-2003 - Many have
emailed me regarding John Sadler, Sir Ralph's brother. Unfortunately
I do not have much information about John. I would be grateful if
anyone could send me details of Johns life. I'm specifically
looking for his date of birth and birthplace, date of death and
burial location as well as any pertinent information about his
life. Also, any information on their father Henry would be most
helpful.
I am also looking for information
regarding the relationship between Sir Ralph Sadler and Hamnet
Sadler who was supposedly a kinsman of Ralph's and also a close
friend of William Shakespeare.
On a final note, this Sunday marks
the 416th anniversary of the death of Sir Ralph. Long life to your
memory Sir Ralph!
6-Jan-2003 - This morning I
received a copy of the two volume set "Great
Trees From Little Saplings Grow". This is very
significant not only in that it completes my collection of
published books about Sir Ralph, but also because of the important
genealogical content. These books were written by Cora Smith Gould
and published in 1931. I have yet to scan the contents of these
volumes, but they appear to contain a great amount of information.
More to come...
2-Jan-2003 - I've added some
scans of the books that I
own about Sadleir. I've also found some more links to Letters
and Property.
26-Dec-2002 - A new look!
I've changed the navigation of this site in hopes of making it
easier to find information. Many of the old pages are under new
headings. All of the information is still here, and more is on the
way!
